Canvas Information and Resources

Why Canvas?

Canvas is a modern online educational platform that supports a deep focus on teaching and learning. The robust features of Canvas enhance teaching and learning beyond the physical classroom.

How was Canvas selected?

In June 2014, CSU announced that it had joined Unizin, a partnership among CSU, Indiana University, the University of Michigan and the University of Florida. The purpose of this consortium is to significantly enhance the manner in which educational content is prepared, delivered to students, preserved, and shared across universities, thereby strengthening our traditional missions of education and research using the most innovative technology available today.

The Unizin partners selected Canvas as the common learning management system because of its superior suite of tools, advanced easy-to-use interface, and commitment to providing open-source technology enhancements in the future, which aligns well with the organization’s goal of providing services across a common technological platform. Unizin members subscribe to Canvas at a special low rate reflecting the shared purchasing power of the organization.

Instructor Feedback

Canvas is not that much different than RamCT Blackboard. It is easy to transition between the two: there are slight differences in the names, locations, and limitations of the tools, but the major features are very similar.
